CHEN Chen's Residency Sharing Session

In this event, artist will share his past video artwork "Finger attack from the air", and the relationship between related martial arts movies and current Internet images (Memes). Artist will also share the new creative project "Practice in two places" during the Hualien residency period. He imagined how to practice himself in the current life. Through the differences in life experience between Taipei and Hualien, the artwork opens up various questions about practice, such as the field, body, and behavior. They are also link to the context of past movies. The Hong Kong Kung Fu movies in the 1970s used the visual presentation and narrative methods of the "praticing and training" proposition.

Chen Chen

Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1997, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Creative Design of HuaFan University, and now he is studying in the master degree of creative, in the Department of Fine Arts of Taipei National University of the Arts. His creation is mainly video and installation works. Through the operation of the video installation, the imagination of the connection between the image and the real space is opened. Recently, he has used martial arts movies as research objects to analyze the flow of the body in past martial arts images and reimagine the possibility of its existence in the current Internet and virtual space.

Heroic narrative and the problem of fake martial arts, the documentary "ABBOT HAI TENG OF SHAOLIN"(1985) uses different fictional overlaps to form its video structure. Use the documentary as a content of remake, and discuss the content of the documentary again in the interview with actor. And interspersed with fighting scenes by fictional actor and abbot Hai Teng. The pseudo-documentary is reproduced the same video structure. And it will point to the problems of nationalism and culture of martial arts.
