2021 Open Call for The Great Wormhole in the Coastal Mountains Range Film Festival Artist-in-Residence Program
Program Brief

Program Description

“The Great Wormhole in the Coastal Mountains Range” is an artist-in-residence program combined with a film festival. The residency location is at a former bunker near the coast at the northernmost tip of the Coastal Mountains Range. The film festival will screen three films from August to October this year and invite directors, screenwriters... and other film crews for talks after screening. The artist-in-residence program will be held at the same time. This program will select two artists for residency, in order to establish connections between visual artists and professional film crews for new inspirations.

Residency Duration

  1. The residency is intended as a 9-week project with a minimum 6-week stay.

  2. Applicants can choose from two phases, which are from August 2 to September 26, 2021; September 6 to October 31, 2021.

  3. Applicants must specify the preferential period during application. 

The program will provide:

  1. One studio for live and work, including private bathroom, shared kitchen, living room, fridge, backyard terrace, roof terrace, washing machine, bicycle. (See photos)

  2. The location of the studio is nearby Hualien river estuary.

  3. The space and opportunity for artistic exchange and sharing.

 *Please note that the transportation fee and living expenses are not included in this program.

  

Artists’ obligation

  1. The selected artists have to hold at least one sharing session during residency.

  2. The selected artists have to participate in the talks after screening and interact with the lecturer invited by the Film Festival.

  3. Please maintain the accommodation environment and cooperate with housekeeping.

  4. Please respect the work and rest time of other residents.

*The selected artists can decide whether to hold exhibitions or performances during the residency. Please note that the material fee is not included in this program; however, Gihak ArtLab is willing to help the artists find the exhibition venue and promote the exhibition online.

 

Selection Process

  1. Only 2 artists will be selected in total, one for each duration.

  2. Evaluations will be carried out based on all information submitted by the applicants. Any application that is falsely written, incomplete or does not meet the requirements will not be considered.

  3. The decision will be posted on Gihak ArtLab’s facebook page and website by the end of June. Only the selected artists will be informed by email.

  

How to apply

  1. Application Deadline: Extended to 23:59:59 (GMT+8), June 14, 2021.

  2. Eligibility:

    • Individuals from Taiwan and abroad who are engaged in artistic creation can apply, regardless of nationality or type of creation.

    • Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of professional art practice. Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must provide information required as follows:

  1. Basic contact information.

  2. Artist CV or portfolio.

  3. Reference works (please upload the related information of your reference works to Google Drive or Dropbox, and provide the link).

  4. Residency periods preferences.

  5. Residency plan.
