2020 Gihak ArtLab Art Creative Project

Project Brief

This open-call project expects that artists come to the Gihak ArtLab to create, so that the perspectives of contemporary art can flow and exchange in the area. At the same time, the participating artists will get the energy from the abundant environmental of Hualien.

 

Gihak is now known as Zhixue. It is located in the northern section of the East Rift Valley. There are rich natural environment and a diverse development environment in the area. The relics of Wu Quan in the 19th century, sugarcane planting during the Japanese colonial period, and watermelon cultivation in the 195-60s, it was also a distribution center for underground casinos. Dong Hwa University school district, indigenous tribes, organic agriculture development for more than ten years, substantial increase in farmland and real estate, railway stations, cattle grazing, Baibao River (orign of Taiwan Nephrite )…, much to be discovered in the area.

 

  • Eligibility:Unlimited media, individuals or groups who create in various fields.

  • Creation and exhibition form: Unlimited

  • Quota: 2 persons(groups)

  • Theme: Agriculture, humanities, environment, history, regional planning and other related content about the Hualien Zhixue region.

  • Application time and results announcement:

  • Application Deadline: April 5th 2020.

  • Results announcement: The jury will evaluate the applications and announce the results by April 18, 2020.

  • Implementation and exhibition of creative project: Selected artists must complete their creative plans and exhibit them before November 30, 2020. During the creative period, artist can live and use the space of Gihak ArtLab.

  • Reward: Each selected artist (group) can get NT$ 40,000, including the cost of creative materials, transportation and living expenses.

  • The selected artists have to hold at least one artist talk or workshop.
