Gihak ArtLab Season 1 Residency Exhibition|Wang Yu-Ting

living near the sea

The location of the residency program in 2021 is at the mouth of the Hualien River, close to the Pacific Ocean, looking towards the border separating the land and the sea. It is not only a famous tourist attraction but also an important habitat for wild birds. From November to February of each year, the Kuroshio Current will bring rich ocean resources. Many fishermen will risk their lives, fighting against the strong waves to catch eel fry overnight. In addition, an important archaeological site is also situated in this area, which has preserved the traces of human life thousands of years ago. During the residency, the artist used methods such as dynamic photography and 3D scanning to transform human behaviors, remaining objects, and natural environments in the area into digital files. Through exploring the current and past traces of life in the area, the artist attempts to discuss whether time is a possible result of energy transformation, and whether space is a result of accumulation of different time expansion.
