Julie Maquet|Artefacts Workshop

We will develop a work of sculptures and installations which consists in turning in a poetic way the function of calibrated and daily life objects to question the notions of standards and conformities constructed, invented by humans to organize the world, living beings and things. We will use manufactured objects and industrial materials bought or recycled and we will work by hand on it to create a fake and fantasist nature, with very simple tools, through a repetition process, trying to be like a machine but in vain, without having a specific savoir-faire. We will let ourselves be surprised by the accidental manipulations made in the studio and will try to exploit these accidents, as the physics and aesthetic properties of our materials and objects. We will create a unique form with multiples forms.

Julie Maquet is a visual artist born in 1990 in Angers, France. Graduated of a DNSEP from The Art school of Angers in 2015 and now based in Nantes. She develops a work of drawings, sculptures and installations which consists in turning in a poetic way the function of calibrated and daily life objects to question the notions of standards and conformities constructed, invented by humans to organize the world, living beings and things. She works with manufactured objects and industrial materials that she buys or recycles, and works by hand on it, without having a specific savoir-faire. She also tries, in vain, to equalize the performance of an industrial machine, and also let herself be surprised by her DIY practice, making use of the accidental manipulations made in her studio. The misuse of objects is made through a simple, precarious but organized process: the accumulation of one object, the exploitation of its esthetic and physic properties, and the repetition of one movement. This work of repetition refers to the labor of a weaving or of an assembly-line work. Her sculptures seem like fragments and ruins, and from a multiple form, she creates a unique form. Her sculptures are subterfuges which look like natural forms, sometimes these artifices are grotesque and fantasist, with their hybridizations, their ambiguities, morbid, precious, and organic dimensions.
